Seldom have I seen anything so old in such good shape. And a Fine collection of Native American Jewelry. The Amos and Andy Fresh Air cab was an American Icon.So popular was the radio show that It was ordered preempted only in times of national emergency. So popular that during one story ark the when the characters were being treated poorly by the police, the ark was ended early for fear of riots. It even altered the English language popularizing the expression Holy Mackerel. 2 years into production (the show started in 1928) Louis Marx produced this car.
It's highly detailed tin litho paint is in great shape with the only noticeable damage being on the windshield (check pictures). The winding mechanism works great. (on and off switch is the gear shift). It is full of cool details like the Marx emblem stamped into the front as a hood ornament, and the crank in the lower front for starting the car.
Even the exposed mechanical bits on the underside add to the coolness. At 8 inches long, 3 1/2 wide and 5 inches tall, this car fits in well in scale with most of it's time.
The car has 2 occupants, Amos is driving, and his dog Pal is in the passenger seat. When produced this car should have had Andy lounging in the back of the taxi smoking a cigar. In this particular car he is missing. Anyway, this is a very cool looking and well functioning piece of history.I was contacted by a customer who made we aware that this toy has been reproduced. It was reproduced by Mikes Toy House in 1991.
They did a limited run of 500 cars. I have no desire to misrepresent an item or cheat someone. My research let me know that this is indeed an original , not a reproduction.
I updated my pictures and in the last picture you can see MAR stamped on the front, at the radiator cap. If this were the reproduction it would have MTH instead.
I also discovered that when new the car had headlights that are now missing and a hood ornament, that is also gone. I have adjust the price accordingly.
Please check out my other auctions I have a lot more Tin toys. A tracking # will be provided.
