BOXED 20s Lehmann Africa Native drives ostrich mail cart GREAT TOY withRARE BOX

These were made in Germany by Lehmann from 1889 to 1918 and were designated as EPL 160. One of the first of the famous Lehmann toys, it is a string drive toy that operates by flywheel. This one depicts an early and comical attempt to domesticate ostriches in Africa as the native with a stick tries to control the animal. Box is very nice with great label--only minor, faint pencil writing on the lid and bottom.
