Zeppelin is a beautiful survivor of World War 1, WW2, and the ravages of 110 years of age. Our Zeppelin is model 5402 and at 12 in length. Construction is metal and tin, hand soldered together and then hand painted.

Even the banner and cables for the gondolas have been hand made. Condition is original and very good with traces of discoloration in the cream at seams, light chips, and age as expected. The celluloid propeller has a crack and has been rebonded with tape. Fan blades have small amounts of surface corrosion. Marklin toys are exceptional and a very heavy gauge of tin toy that need to be held to fully understand.

This toy is no exception and it is a stout and thicker tin toy than most all makers. The hand painting is thick and well applied. Details are very well executed and hand made. An incredible and top notch toy. Gebruder Maerklin (Marklin) Goppingen, Germany 1859 to date Founder: Theodor and his wife, Caroline Maerklin Specialty: Originated as a maker of doll-sized tinplate kitchenware.

When sons took over the business in 1888, firm name was changed to Gebruder Maerklin. Branched out to a variety of enameled tinplate boats, carousels, aeronautical toys. Unsurpassed in production of clockwork, steam, and electric trains. Introduced first standardized tinplate tracks in 1891.

Maerklin switched to plastic train sets in the late 1950s. Pictures included are of actual item(s) for sale colors may differ slightly in person due to lighting, cameras, or monitor settings. See the above section on combining items to see how to arrange to have an invoice sent to you.
