It has an overall height of 11 1/2" on the stand and with the removable wind-up key in place it reaches 14 1/4" tall. Whether you are a seasoned collector, a museum curator or just starting out a collection, we cannot imagine a finer example of a restored antique Orkin Craft anywhere.
Note the incredible attention to fit and finish in every detail of the hull and expansive polished deck, the metal fittings, the cockpit with a working compass and the vented hatch that opens, allowing the fully functional engine to be viewed and wound with the original key. The engine itself and the interior of the hull are also immaculate. Watch the propeller in action with its speed-adjusting brake lever that extends up through the floor of the cockpit. The Orkin Craft pennant flies from the stern, proudly waving in the breeze! The boat was built by toymaker Calwis Industries, Ltd.
Of Beverly Hills, California, which was in business from the late 1920's up until WWII. The stern features pertinent Calwis information and the rear deck is enhanced by an elegant, originally styled decal bearing the Calwis Orkin Craft logo. There were several different speedboat models produced by Calwis and this model is by far the sleekest and most glamorous of the lineup. Credit for this masterpiece goes to renowned restoration artist and silversmith Sam Kutz of SKUTZ CO. The beautiful images are the work of photographer Eric Bever also of Costa Mesa.
