An excellent and great-working wind up tin toy from Marx, with all the colorful lithographed artwork that you would expect from this well-known toy maker. This version was made in 1950. Unlike most windup toys of the 50s and 60s, this toy has a piano wire type spring mechanism, similar to the toys made in the 1920s.
It also has many sayings and slogans used in earlier times. As a result many collectors think that this toy was made in the 20s. Wind up the Jalopy, turn it over and just watch the wheels move. The rear axle is bent to give the wobbly effect to the Jalopys action.
Also notice that the front wheels can be set to travel in a circle or go straight. This whimsical toy has a working wind-up mechanism with build-in key on the passenger side. The Marx logo appears on the roof.
Styled after a stereotypical run down older "jalopy" car, with lots of commentary in the graphics all over the body. Size: 7 inches long; 3 ½ inches wide at the fenders; 4 ¾ inches high. Condition: There are minor scratches, discoloration and small dings in a couple of spots. The chassis, axles and windup mechanism show no rust.
The colors are magnificent and the lithography is extremely well done. This is one of the nicer examples of this toy. The windup spring is very strong, and moves as if new!
