Extremely rare tin windup toy car made in the early 1900s by the Siegfried Gunthermann Toy Co. The car features a key wind clockwork motor with a bellows which makes a high pitched putt-putt sound with every revolution of the wheels. The unrestored gem has most of its original bright lithograph paint with clear'SG' logos on each side door and hood. The 4 rubber tires are thought to be the originals. Overall it measures approximately 8" long x 4" wide x 5 1/2 high.
Both the spring and bellows work well sure to provide years of entertainment. Siegfried Gunthermann founded his toy company in 1826 and became known for exhibiting great detail in each handmade piece.Eight years after his death in 1890, his toy company began making these exquisite toy cars fashioning them after the German cars which started being built during that time. He joined a select number of Euopean toy makers including Bing, Marklin, Hess, and Carette to name a few who also had decided to manufacture tin windup toy cars.
