Vintage'40s Hafner/Wyandotte Windup Tin Litho Locomotive + 3 Railcars, Classic
Vintage 1940s Hafner/Wyandotte Windup Tin Litho Locomotive + 3 Railcars, Classic Mid-Century Toy. For your consideration is a 4-piece train set with vintage, decorative appeal. Quite colorful and with detailed graphics, these windup Hafner/Wyandotte toys were quite popular in postwar America.

This O gauge set originally ran with a clockwork mechanism wound by a key, had a battery operated headlight and traveled on a short track. A bell was repeatedly struck, chiming in when the train screamed around the oval track.

Our offered set consists of a locomotive, full coal car, Grand Canyon Line boxcar and an empty Northern Pacific coal car, the latter having a slightly different style coupler and marginally smaller wheels. Total set weight is 26 1/2 oz, with the gear-heavy locomotive weighing almost one pound and measuring 8 1/2"(l) x 2 1/8"(w) x 3(h). The 3 cars are shorter and not quite as wide and tall.

There is no track, no attached key and no locomotive headlight. Although the bell doesn't ring when the train is pushed, all wheels roll smoothly. The switch on the top of the locomotive locks and unlocks the wheels, and the one on the lower front was designed to turn the headlight on and off. Scratches, scuffs, spots of superficial rust and some areas of bent metal, including the car couplers and locomotive wheel coupling rods, which currently are disattached from the front wheels, give this set a rich and vibrant patina.
