Description: This is for a vintage, original 1936 Popeye & Olive Oil Tin Windup Marx Jigger Toy. Manufactured by the Marx Toy Company in 1936 and harder to find Popeye character wind up toy. This great tin windup toy has good, colorful graphics on all four sides, with Popeye and Olive Oil on the roof. Marx Made in the U. Period litho logo printed on the bottom.
The base of the toy features wonderful Popeye lithography including scenes of an angry Olive after she fell into the water. Wimpy is also in the water holding on to a plank. Another scene shows Wimpy serenading a cow with a guitar. Another scene shows Wimpy attempting to conduct a band.
And the last scene shows Sweat Pea looking on as Alice the Goon punches the Sea Hag. Condition: This dancing jigger toy is in very good condition. The toy does wind up smoothly and work, although it's a bit herky jerkey for me to say it works perfectly well. Both Popeye and Olive dance and move on the roof, and the original on/off switch is firmly attached and works well. There are some rub marks and some spots of missing paint as shown. I believe Olive had a metal ponytail, but this piece does not. I do not see signs of any repair, but with the age of this item I cannot rule that out. The paint on the litho is bright and colorful, very little fading (if any). The bottom half, under the roof, have excellent graphics with minimal wear. Any condition questions, please ask.
Specs: The base measures 5.5" long by 3.25" wide. The overall height of Popeye standing on the base is 9 tall.
